Vernell Miller Obituary (1946

Vernell Miller was born on June 11, 1946 in Harlem, New York to Ellison Bookhard and Annie B. Miller-Jimenez. On April 3, 2011 God dispatched his angels to 229 Spring Street with orders to confer with Vernell Miller her certificate no more pain or suffering. She fought the fight against the enemy for several years. The devil thought he had a loser, but little did he know he was dealing with Gods Ambassador. At a very young age in life Vernell was relocated to Elloree, South Carolina under the guardianship of her grandmother Rosalee Miller. She attended the public schools of Orangeburg County, South Carolina. Upon graduation Vernell had the desire to be back in the city lights of South Norwalk, Connecticut where she reunited with her family. Upon relocating back to Connecticut she was employed by Style Footwear. After the closing of Style Footwear she was employed by Cook Laboratory for many years. Ms. Miller desired to advance herself and was employed by Mediplex of Westport which later became known as the Westport Healthcare Center. Her love and compassion for people caused her to be committed and dedicated until her illness forced her to resign. Her love for sports drove her to be a superb softball player. It was evident in the various teams she played for that she became a major player. She played for the Tigerettes, and later became an outstanding player with the Green Lantern team. Her love for the game landed her the most valuable player on numerous occasions. She also became known as the slugger. Her pitching ability caused many batters to tremble. She was well known for the many trophies that she had won for her pitching abilities. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, one son; Marvin Miller and one daughter; Tinda D. Miller both of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Two brothers; Harry B. Miller (Shirley) of Norwalk, CT; and Phillip Bookhard of South Carolina; Three sisters; Ertha Hollman (Ruben) of Virginia; Janice Bookhard of South Carolina and Abigail White of Florida. One grandson; Devin Giordano of North Carolina; Five granddaughters; Sharnise Miller, Tyshika Gaines, Charde Coleman, Knesha Booker, and Latoya Booker all of Bridgeport, Connecticut. One goddaughter; Janie Humes of Bridgeport, Connecticut. One special friend Ashanti S. Mali of Stratford, Connecticut . She was predeceased by her precious daughter Latoya Denise Miller. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 08, 2011 at Canaan Institutional Church, 31 Concord Street, Norwalk, CT 06854. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 A.M until time of service at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at Park Cemetery, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut 06606.
