Vanessa Scott, affectionately known as “Van,” a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Yale Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, surrounded by her loving family.
Vanessa (the cherished daughter) was born on March 14, 1962, in Talladega, Alabama to the late Clem H. Scott and Dora Castleberry Scott. She graduated from Talladega High School, Talladega, Alabama - Class of 1981.
Her Spiritual Journey
Vanessa’s spiritual journey began at Peace Missionary Baptist Church, Talladega, Alabama, and continued when she relocated to Norwalk, Connecticut. She was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend George B. Monts at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Norwalk, Connecticut.
She later found her church home at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Norwalk, Connecticut, under the leadership of Reverend Henry G. Floyd, Sr. There, she joined the Gospel Chorus and remained a faithful member until her health began to decline. Her faith was an important part of her life and remained a source of strength throughout her journey.
A Life of Dedication and Service:
Throughout her career, Vanessa was known for her strong work ethic, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she served. She was employed with NEON Child Care, in Norwalk, Connecticut, before continuing her career with Fairfield Regional Facilities, operated by the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services. For more than 20 years, Vanessa devoted herself to caring for individuals with special needs, offering patience, kindness, and compassion. Her years of service reflected not only her commitment to her profession, but also her genuine concern for the well-being of others. She took pride in her work and made a meaningful difference in the lives of those entrusted to her care.
A Life Filled with Love, Laughter, and Joy
Van was truly the joy of the party! She was well known for hosting her annual July cookout, a much-anticipated celebration that brought together more than 200 family and friends. With an abundance of delicious food, music, dancing, and laughter, her gatherings were filled with unforgettable memories. If you attended one of Van’s cookouts, you knew you were in for a wonderful time!
Van had a passion for cooking and especially enjoyed her beloved pork chitterlings. When she wasn’t working, attending church, or spending time at home, you might find her enjoying a visit to Mohegan Sun Casino, trying her lady luck or just simply having a good time.
Music brought Van tremendous joy. One of her favorite R&B songs was Ring My Bell by Anita Ward, and she especially loved the soulful sounds of Luther Vandross. Whether enjoying her favorite music, sharing a delicious meal, or celebrating with family and friends, Van embraced life with a spirit of joy and a love for bringing people together. She also took great pride in her appearance. Even when she wasn’t feeling her best, she made sure her hair was styled, her nails were beautifully done and dressed to impress. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places and creating lasting memories through her many adventures.
A Life Filled with Love, Laughter, and Joy
Vanessa leaves to cherish her precious memories and a lifetime of love in the hearts of her two beloved sons, La’Toris Scott and Ravon Shular, both of Norwalk, Connecticut; her beautiful granddaughter, Pyradice Rose Shular of Bridgeport, Connecticut, who held a special place in her heart. Her family was her pride and joy, and that love extended to her loving sister, Lillie Jean Scott Clyburn of Norwalk, Connecticut; her brother, Charles Edward Scott of Talladega, Alabama; and her special niece, Doretha Clyburn. She also leaves to cherish her memory a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with a host of sorrowing relatives and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love, kindness, and unforgettable spirit.
In addition to her parents, Vanessa was predeceased in death by her brother, Willie Dean Scott, and her two sisters, Harriet Scott Hart and Frannie Scott.
