Theola Balkcom Obituary (1912

Theola Balkcom was born on March 16, 1912 in Florida to Missie (Jones) Balkcom and Moultrie Balkcom. She entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Trumbull, CT. She was educated in the school systems of Woodbury and Bridgeport, CT. She was an active member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, Second Tabernacle through her adolescent years. She attended Virginia State University through scholarships awarded by the church and earned a degree in education. After receiving her degree, she taught school in Bronx, NY. During that time, she became interested in the practice of Hatha Yoga as taught by Yogi Gupta, a world-renowned teacher. As teacher and student, Theola did much to advance the aims of The Yogi Gupta Ashram, and attributed her longevity to adherence to its dietary and exercise practices. In her roles of teacher and friend, she touched many lives in the church, school and ashram. She will be missed by a multitude of nieces and nephews (great and great-great nieces and nephews), other relatives, and a great many friends. Theola was predeceased by her parents Missie and Moultrie, sisters Wilhelmina (Singer), Hazel (Butler) and brothers Charles, Elliott and Joel. Funeral Services are 7:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Church of God and Saints of Christ, Second Tabernacle 748 Connecticut Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06607 Elder Benjamin R.
