Roger P. Brown Jr

–

Derby, Connecticut

Roger P. Brown Jr, affectionately better known by "Candy Man" by his family transitioned peacefully on October 8, 2026. Born on the 4th of May 1972 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Graduating from Harding High School was a proud achievement for Roger. For many years Roger was known as “Smiley” where he worked as a Package Loader at Amazon.

Roger's life was a testament to his supportive, thoughtful, and generous spirit. He was a man who loved deeply, gave selflessly, and embraced life. His infectious smile and the twinkle in his eyes would light up any room he entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Roger's unwavering compassion touched countless lives and will continue to be remembered by all who loved him.

Outside of work, Roger had a passion for puzzles, bike riding, and video games. He was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys where he continued collecting memorabilia and never missing a football game. His love for old school hip hop and R&B was his soothing outlet, often seen humming to the rhythm while cooking for his family.

Roger found great joy in bringing people together. Whether he hosted a cookout or simply spent time with loved ones, he had a special gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued. His love for gummy candies was legendary among family and friends, earning him the affectionate nickname "Candy Man." It was a name he wore proudly and one that always brought smiles and fond memories to those who knew him best.

His love for family was evident in every aspect of his life. He doted on his grandchildren, Jayden and Zaraius, and held a special place in his heart for his daughter, Kayla. His mother, Margaret, and his siblings, Precious and Juanita, were also his pillars of support.

Previously living in Father Panik Village was a place that held many fond memories of his childhood.

In his later years, Roger accepted God as his lord and savior. His faith was a source of comfort and strength to him. Though we mourn the departure of this inspiring soul, we also Celebrate his life and cherish the memories he has left behind. Roger will always be remembered for his generous nature, often willing to give the shirt off his back for anyone in need.

Roger is lovingly survived by his daughter, Kayla Brown; his mother, Margaret McNeil; his sisters, Juanita Davis and Precious McNeil; his brothers, Tyrique McNeil and Jermaine McNeil; and his cherished grandsons, Jayden Brown-Muhammad and Zaraius Gordon-Brown. He also leaves behind a host of beloved aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, godchildren, close friends, and other family members whose lives were enriched by his love, guidance, and presence.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Roger Brown Sr, his significant other, Shenika Forney, his grandmother, Mary Sue McNeil and other loved ones who welcomed him into eternal rest.

We invite you to share your Precious Memories of Roger on the Memorial page, and upload photos that Celebrate his inspiring life. His legacy will continue to inspire us all.
Let us remember him as the Candy Man, the Smiley, the Cowboys fan, the music lover, the cook, the puzzle solver, but above all, the loving family man he was.
