Nonia Pauline Nelson Jul 07,1933 - Dec 14, 2017 Nonia Pauline Nelson, the daughter of the late Cleveland Giles, Sr. and the late Mary Willie Giles, was born in Opelika, AL on July 5, 1933. She was called home to Our Lord on December 14, 2017 while surrounded by close family. Ms. Nelson moved from Opelika to Port Chester, NY in 1957. She worked part-time as a Home Health Aid for several years with the Town of Greenwich until her retirement in 1998. She spent the majority of her life devoted to raising her children and actively participating in church activities at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Port Chester, NY and Mount Nebo Baptist Church formerly in Norwalk, CT now in Bridgeport, CT. Ms. Nelson was the First Lady of Mount Nebo from April 1997 to February 2007. She was an avid traveler throughout her life. She took cruises to Mexico, various Caribbean islands, Italy, Spain and France. Ms. Nelson is predeceased by her husband, Pastor Wallace Nelson; four siblings, Eva Mae Wilborn, Fannie Giles, Gladys Baker, and Chester Giles; and granddaughter, Shantel Nicole Giles. Ms. Nelson is survived by three children, two loving step-children, three siblings, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of beloved family and friends. On Tuesday, December 19, 2017, the Viewing (at 10:00a.m.) and the Funeral Services (at 11:00a.m.) will be held at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 23 Slater Street, Port Chester, NY 10573. The Interment will be held at St. John's Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Baker Funeral Home Inc., 84 South Main St, Norwalk, CT.
