Maude Isabella Hinds Drayton was born to Augustus Hinds and Mary Edgehill Hinds on January 3, 1918 in Boston MA. She was raised by the Skeete family, cousins of her father, upon the passing of her parents. Maude met her future husband, Dan Drayton in Boston and they married in 1937. In 1942 they moved to Connecticut.
Maude was the proud mother of Anita Marie and Carmen Louise. She also cared for many foster children. One of the children, Margaret Teresa captured her heart and she raised her as her third daughter. Maude joined many organizations-PTA, Mothers Club, Girls Scouts to be a part of her girls growing up process.
Maude worked at General Electric for a short time before she decided that nursing was her calling. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1957, working at Bridgeport Hospital and several nursing homes in the area. Following her love for children, Maude worked at ABCD and at Bassick High School as a counselor for many years.
Maude was an active member of St Marks Episcopal Church in Bridgeport, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, advisor for the junior Daughters of the King, member of the pastoral group Genesis.
Maude was predeceased by her parents, her siblings-Milicent, Charles, Benjamin, Sylvester, Golbert, her grandson Clifford and her beloved husband of 71 years Dan. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, goddaughters Deborah Moye, 13 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Maudes goal in life was to make a good home for her husband and her family, of the blood and of the heart, and especially follow Gods will.
