Mark Atwater

MARK M ATWATER
May 24, 1956 - July 24, 2026

Mark was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, before moving with his family to Stratford, Connecticut. A graduate of Stratford High School and Sacred Heart University, he went on to build a dedicated 15-year career at PerkinElmer.

A true jack of all trades, Mark possessed a sharp, analytical mind and a gift for fixing almost anything there was hardly a problem he couldn’t solve. He took pride in working in the yard, loved swimming, and enjoyed building things from scratch. Mark lived life with a vibrant, playful energy and was a kid at heart. His favorite place in the world was Jamaica, and his love for music especially Stevie Wonder was a constant backdrop to his life.
Above all, Mark had a huge heart for those he loved, including his cherished dogs, Teddy and Tammi, for whom he lovingly cooked homemade meals every day. Everyone who knew Mark will remember his loud, contagious laugh that could light up any room. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Mark leaves to cherish his memory: his Wife Myrna Atwater; Children Mark Asa Stedman Atwater, Juanita Heard, Felicia Heard, and Shiron Durr (husband Phillip Durr); Siblings Tony Atwater, Michael Atwater (wife Robin Atwater), Tina Atwater Cooper, and Donald Rockhead; Grandchildren Aniyah Atwater, Jace Atwater, Amil Atwater, Asaan Atwater, Jayden Valderrama, Eljani Abrahham, and Tonaysia Cohen Alanna Clarke.

He was predeceased by Wheeler Stedman Atwater (father), Margaret Lipscomb Atwater (mother) and Amanda Atwater Wells (sister).
