In Loving Memory of Leroy Moody Jr.
Leroy Moody Jr., affectionately known as “Poppy,” was born on February 27, 1988, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Leroy Moody Sr. and Cynthia Hill Moody. He entered glory on October 18, 2026. A lifelong resident of Bridgeport, Leroy touched countless lives through his faith, vibrant personality, and genuine love for others.
Raised in the church, Leroy developed a spiritual foundation that remained an important part of his life. He was a member of Faith Outreach Apostolic Church, where he was baptized in Jesus’ name. During his early years, he participated in the music department, youth programs, and other church activities, including Christmas and Easter plays. Under the leadership of The Late Overseer Carrie Loyd and Pastor Cynthia Bellamy, he continued to grow in his knowledge and understanding of Scripture. He especially enjoyed Sunday School, where he was taught that it was “the hotbed of the church.” Among his cherished childhood memories were moments spent in the kitchen with his brothers and sisters, reciting Scriptures and sharing words of wisdom while his mother and grandmother prepared meals. These experiences helped nurture his faith and instill the values that shaped his life.
Leroy’s intelligence was evident from an early age. He began mastering video games before entering school and consistently excelled academically at Park City Magnet and Central Magnet High School, where he graduated. Following graduation, he began working at Stop & Shop, where he remained for seven years. His professionalism,
courtesy, and exceptional customer service earned him praise and recognition. His natural ability to connect with people eventually led him to pursue a career in the insurance industry. While working at Aetna, he received numerous awards in recognition of his dedication and strong work ethic. He later joined Found Ever, where he continued working until his passing. Throughout his career, Leroy treated customers, supervisors, and coworkers with kindness, compassion, and respect, leaving a lasting impression on those he encountered.
Driven by his faith and determined to accomplish whatever he set his mind to, Leroy was energetic, radiant, and full of life. He possessed a magnetic presence and a gift for making a grand entrance. He loved vivid colors, embraced his individuality, and never shied away from standing out. His smile could be seen from a mile away, and whenever
he entered a room, his presence was unmistakable. By the time he left, you knew exactly who he was—POPPY! He truly was the LIGHT in every room, bringing an energy that people could never forget.
Beneath his bold personality was a caring heart that made people feel valued and remembered. Leroy made it a point to check on family and friends, reach out when someone had been unusually quiet, and offer his presence whenever it was needed. He had a special gift for bringing people together, often turning acquaintances into lifelong
friends. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially at Seaside Park or near the water, and he rarely missed an opportunity to participate in a lively, smack-talking game of spades or a good game night. His humor was effortless, his laughter contagious, and his loyalty unwavering. Whether through a phone call, a helping hand, or simply
spending time with someone, Poppy had a way of reminding people that they mattered. His friendships were a testament to the genuine love and connection he shared with others.
Leroy took pride in his appearance, a trait he shared with his mother. He loved looking sharp and used his personal style to express his confidence and individuality. He also had a few favorite comforts that those who knew him will remember fondly. Pork chops were a weekly favorite, and his sweet tooth was no secret. Reese’s Cups, peanut
butter treats, apple jelly, and snickerdoodles were among his favorites. These familiar preferences were just a few of the little things that made Poppy so uniquely himself.
Music was another of Leroy’s passions. He learned to play the saxophone and developed the ability to read music. He appreciated the power of rhythm and sound, whether it came from a musical instrument or the unmistakable roar of a bike engine. His sharp mind also shone through his strength in mathematics. Yet, above all his interests and talents, one passion stood above the rest: riding bikes. For Poppy, it was always “BIKE LIFE!”
Throughout his life, he could often be seen riding along Morgan Avenue—sometimes without a shirt—and cruising through the streets of Bridgeport, CT. His adventurous spirit and fearless nature were captured in videos of him performing stunts on three- and four-wheeler ATVs. Although his daring tricks sometimes resulted in mishaps, he
never allowed a setback to keep him down. He would get back up, try again, and keep going. And when his bike needed attention, he knew exactly whom to call: his trusted mechanic, his Unc. Angelo! For Leroy, biking was far more than a hobby; it was a lifestyle, a source of joy, and a defining part of his identity. “BIKE LIFE” was Poppy’s
world, and he made sure everyone knew it!
Leroy was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jakari Lamier Moody; his maternal grandparents, Sam and Dorothy Hill; his paternal grandparents, Oliver and Carolyn Moody; his favorite cousin, Eric Ager; and other beloved family members.
Poppy leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Leroy Moody Sr. and Cynthia Hill Moody; his brothers, Dyshone Hill Sr., Shaquon Hunt, and Saadiq Moody; and his sisters, Raquel Hill, Paige “Keke” Gregory, and Shanice Nixon. He also leaves his nephew, Dyshone Hill Jr.; his nieces, Dy’Asia Hill and Summer Hill; and his fiancée, Mary Halloway. His surviving extended family includes his great-aunts, Pastor Juanita Dinkins of West Haven, Mary Moody of Sumter, South Carolina, and Cynthia Nixon of Milford, Connecticut; his aunts, Melissa Hill, Mary Hill, Lola Hill (Jacob Duco), and Tracy Moody; and his uncles, Sammie Hill, Oliver Moody III, Kevin Foster, and Calvin Lanham.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his special cousins, Samone Grant, Essence Moody, Jwana Nixon, Brian Cooper Jr., Collin Clarke, and Alex Clarke; his brothers and sisters from another mother, Raheem “Ra-Ra” Hurd, Tajuan “Tae” Fogle, Michael “Mike” Alston, and Tatiana Barrett; and his special friends Alston, Bernard, Josh, Trevor, Isaac, Dimir, Shaday, Shante, Sammiyyah, and Mar. He also leaves a host of extended family members, friends, coworkers, and all those whose lives he touched.
To everyone whose name may not have been mentioned, please know that you are not forgotten. As his mother lovingly reminds us, “Look to your neighbor to your left and to your right, and say, ‘I’m Grannies Son.’”
Though Leroy’s earthly journey has ended, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His unmistakable smile, vibrant spirit, and passion for “BIKE LIFE” will never be forgotten.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Poppy.
RIDE INTO THE GATES OF HEAVEN, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN!
