Stratford, Connecticut
Missionary LaVerne Erlene Wright was born in Wildwood, FL on September 26, 1944. Affectionately known as “Bunny”, she spent her early years in Florida with her grandparents Primas and Mary Massey. Later, she moved to Bridgeport, CT under the care of Elese and William George, who partnered to further nurture her path through life.
After graduating high school, LaVerne embarked on a career that took her around the state of Connecticut. For over 35 years she worked for Hubbell Incorporated in the Accounts Payable and Finance Department, where she later retired. Beloved by her colleagues, she was known for her hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence.
Bunny strived to be a true servant of the Lord in the most modest way, working comfortably behind the scenes. Church Secretary, Vice President of the Usher Board, Choir, Scholarship Committee, Trustee Board, Missionary Board, and Sunday School, were just some of the ministries during her tenure. Feeding the less fortunate with the “Here to Serve” team was especially enjoyed, with great admiration. The meekness and compassion for others she displayed throughout her life, is a legacy that will forever inspire all those who were blessed to know her.
As a devoted wife, and mother, Bunny shared many precious years of marriage with her beloved husband, William Wright Jr., who preceded her in death. The treasured time she spent with them were priceless memories that were filled with laughter and joy. Bunny will always be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family. The teaching, encouraging words, good food, and just her presence will surely be missed, but never forgotten.
On September 10, 2026, LaVerne “Bunny” Wright peacefully answered the Lord’s call to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband William Wright Jr.; sisters, Mae Emma Nails, Clara “Candy” Hampton; brothers, Jimmy “Jabby” Simmons, Troy Massey and Robert (Bobby) George.
Her loving memories and legacy will be cherished forever by: her devoted sons, Julian Wright of Japan, Jarvis Wright of Louisiana, and Jermaine “Jerry” Wright of Stratford; beloved sister Reverend Venita E. George; 14 grandchildren, 1 great- grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
