It is with a heavy heart and profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of a remarkable man, Kenneth Garner, affectionately known as "Puff" to those close to him. Born in Stamford, Connecticut on January 12, 1973, Kenneth lived a life deeply rooted in love, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to family. His life was a testament to the saying, "Family is not an important thing, it's everything," a legacy instilled by his beloved grandmother, Arlesta Garner.
Kenneth was a compassionate soul who carried an immense love for his family. He had a special knack for bringing people together, whether it was through his infectious laughter, shared meals, or simply being present. He didn't wait for special occasions; for Kenneth, every moment was an opportunity to show love. His bond with his cousins reflected something deeper than extended family; it was a brotherhood, friendship, and protection all wrapped into one. His love for family was so profound that it made every gathering feel like home, no matter where it was.
Kenneth was a dedicated and loyal employee of the City of Bridgeport, where he served as an Election Clerk for 16 years. His dedication extended beyond his professional life. He was a proud member of Y.U.K.E. Nation and served as a Machine Technician with the Registrar of Voters Office. Kenneth's love for sports, especially football, was undeniable. As a high school student at Bassick High School, he played the role of a Quarterback with vigor and enthusiasm.
In his free time, Kenneth was a culinary enthusiast, a grill-master who loved cooking. He found joy in preparing meals and sharing them with his loved ones, creating moments of togetherness and unity. His love for cooking was one of the many ways Kenneth showed his love for those around him.
Kenneth leaves behind a legacy of love that stretches across generations. He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Shavers; sons, Kenneth Jr. and Kenyon Garner; his fiance' Ines Ayala and step-daughters, Aleah Byas, Janet Ayala, and Jayda Ayala; siblings, Ikea White, Mecee White, Flay White, Ca-Starr White, Alonzo White Jr and David Shavers Jr. (Diane); his niece Jonnae Shavers and nephews Johnny Shavers Jr. and Dovante Shavers-Wiley; and four grandsons. He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Shavers; father, Alonzo White Sr.; and grandparents, Arlesta and Robert Garner Sr.
The viewing will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 am EDT at the Holy Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, located at 2271 North Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut, 06604. The Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am at the same location.
While we are immensely saddened by Puff's departure, we are grateful for the love and joy he brought into our lives. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. As we celebrate his life and legacy, we invite you to share your memories of Puff on the memorial page and upload photos that capture the beautiful moments you shared with him. These shared memories and photos will serve as a comforting reminder of the impact he had on all of us.
