Dan Drayton

On March 20, 2009, Dan Drayton of Fairfield, CT, was called home to the Lord. Dan was born on April 10, 1916 in Allendale, SC to Adolphus and Daisy (Capers) Drayton. He was then middle of 16 children. Dan moved to Boston, MA as a young man where he met and married the love of his life Maude Hinds. They were married for 71 years. The marriage produced two daughters and an adopted daughter. As a young man, Dan worked as a chef in MA. In 1942, he and Maude moved to Connecticut where he worked at the Bridgeport Aluminum Company. Dan then went into the dry cleaning business working for several shops until he became an entrepreneur by opening his own dry cleaning and laundry business. He owned Drayton Cleaners in Stratford, CT for 40 years.
Dan was an active member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, belonging to the Mens Club.
Dan leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sisters Susie Pruitt of Brockton, MA and Okkaku Brown of Bridgeport, CT; three daughters Carmen Fogle of Stratford, CT, Anita M. Jones (Charles) of Trumbull, CT, and Margaret Lee of Bridgeport, CT; 12 grandchildren, Kimberley Crawford, Rebecca Ericsson (Holgar), Melissa Allen (Bentley), Simone DePaolo (Pasquale), Ann Jackson, Barrett Jackson (Pamela), Clifford Jackson, Traci Caple, Lori Caple, Michael Caple, Charles Caple, Scott Caple, Steven Caple, Dan Caple; goddaughter, Deborah Moye (Leroy) and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and a host of friends and church family members.
Dan will be remembered as a wonderful husband, fabulous father, loving grampa and great friend who believed that God took care of him and brought him Home when they were both ready.
Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Monday, March 23, 2009 at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 401 Newfield Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. Viewing is at 10:00 AM until time of Services.
