Charles Brown

Charles Hayward Brown was born in Brunswick County, VA on April 12, 1936. He passed peacefully at home on Saturday, January 16, 2021 with loved ones by his side. He was the ninth child of twelve children from the union of Ruth Ann and George Lindsey Brown. Charles attended public schools in Brunswick County, VA where he played Baseball in high school. He joined Good Hope Baptist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age of 12.

He moved to Baltimore, MD in 1959 where he met and formed a relationship with Lena Stanfield. They were joined in holy matrimony in 1967 and moved to Bridgeport, CT where they made their home. Charles worked for AVCO Lycoming as a foreman from 1968-1997, where he retired.

Charles was a member of the Four Brothers and Newfield Park Tree Social Club in Bridgeport, CT., where you would see him on the dance floor which is something everyone knew he loved to do. Charles loved sports but Baseball and Wresting was his favorites. He loved to work on old cars and he did Landscaping for friends and neighbors for many years. He was loved by everyone and he was very generous and would give you the shirt off his back.

Charles leaves to cherish his wife Lena Brown of Stratford, CT. Two daughters, Michelle Durant (Joseph) of Clayton, NC and Tracey Richardson (Larry) of Knightdale, NC. Two sisters Mary Hargrove of Bridgeport, CT and Christine Baskerville (John) of South Hill, VA. One brother Freeman Brown of Baltimore, MD. One sister-in-law Gladys Brown of Brodnax, VA. Nine grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and many friends that loved him.
