Brian Julian Purdie of Charlotte, NC passed away on Sunday March 6, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born to the late Julius Earl Purdie and Cora Mae Purdie on December 15, 1961 in Norwalk, CT. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 3:00 at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Street, Norwalk, CT. A viewing will be held from 2:00 to the time of service at Magner Funeral Home.
Growing up in Norwalk, CT, Brian or "Bronto" was one of nine children. Brian attended Rowayton Elementary School, Roton Middle School, and Brien McMahon High School, where he played on the school's football team. Eventually Brian moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where he spent the last fifteen years of his life. He worked for K and W Cafeteria for the past fourteen years until his health compelled him to resign.
He loved his family so much, especially our mother. For years, he would call our mother every morning to start his day off while having his cup of coffee. He was one of five boys, his brothers included, Douglas (Wendy) Purdie of Atlanta, GA, Michael Purdie of Lakeland, FL, Keith (Joy) Purdie of New Haven, CT. His sisters: Vanessa Purdie of New Haven, CT, Anita (George) Reid of Wesport, CT, Lolita Purdie of Norwalk, CT, and Lisa Harewood of Atlanta, GA. Brian especially cherished his relationship with his nieces and nephews: Kelly Mills, Shontaya Purdie, Curtis Wilson Jr., Matthew Purdie, Kareme Purdie, George Reid, Warren Purdie, Shydaia Wilson, Taylor Reid, Tiffany Reid, Richard Tuck, Breanna Purdie, and Tyler Purdie. He would always call to see how they were doing, and if they needed anything. His smile radiated through the phone. Brian consistently extended himself to others and readily offered to help in any way that he could.
He is predeceased by his father, Julius Earl Purdie; mother, Cora Mae Purdie; brother, Earl Julius Purdie; niece, Lisa Lminggio and nephew Richard Cunnigham. He leaves behinds a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
During his trying moments, Brian kept a positive attitude. There were times when he his spirits were low, but he never dwelled on the distressing problems that he faced. In fact, he was always thinking of what he would do next with our family and when we would get together again. To know Brian, was to know a beautiful person whose smile would light up the room. He will truly be missed by all his family and friends.
Brian's Family and Friends sincerely thank you for your support during this difficult time. We all look toward the time when [Jehovah God] will swallow up death forever. And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25:8)
