Anderson Whittaker

God, in His infinite wisdom, called Anderson "Rat" Whittaker from labor to rest on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Anderson was born on Thursday, December 20, 1945, in Camden, South Carolina, to David Jefferson Whitaker Sr., and Nannie Lee Ealy Whitaker. He was the beloved brother of Catherine, Josephine, Perrine, David Jr., Rosemary, Jerome, and Deborah.

Anderson relocated with his family to Stamford, CT in 1954. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Anderson received his formal education in the Stamford Public school system and graduated from Stamford High School, where he played baseball and developed his aptitude for machinery.

After graduating high school, Anderson worked a series of jobs, including Electrolux in Old Greenwich, CT, and the Ford Motor Plant in San Jose, CA. His work in the automotive industry enabled him to travel throughout the United States. He lived in Wisconsin, New York, California, and Louisiana. While in California, Anderson studied machinery and photography at San Jose City College. He returned to Connecticut and worked at Arnold Bakeries until his retirement in 2011. After his retirement, Anderson continued his lifelong passion for travel, experiencing life in Nevada, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. He again returned to Connecticut in 2023 to be near family.

Anderson found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved attending family gatherings, spending time with his grandchildren, meeting people and sharing lessons learned from his lifes journeys.

Anderson leaves to cherish his memory two sons: Anthony Simmons of Bridgeport, CT, and Anderson Smith of Mcdonough, GA; three daughters: Tanya Jefferson-Wallace (Deano) of Bridgeport, CT, Stacey Razor (William) of Columbia, SC, and Shawnda Whittaker of Playa del Rey, CA; one brother: Jerome (Beverly) of Milford, CT; four sisters: Catherine Vanterpool of Stamford, CT; Josephine Boykin (Leroy) of Hahira, GA, Rosemary Whitaker of Stratford, CT, and Deborah Whitaker of Alexandria, VA; eight grandchildren: Tangy Mason, Ashley Pierrelouis-Mitchell (Carlyle), Dean Wallace, Briana Wallace, Samara Wallace, Elijah Wallace, Savanna Razor, and Asia Smith; and one great granddaughter, Aniya Whitehorn. Anderson is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.

Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David Jr., and his sister, Perrine.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM, Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 29 Grove Street, Stamford, CT. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.
